The development of ArSIS has been requested by the Ministry of Economy of Armenia due to the necessity of objective assessment of soil resources for improving agricultural policy, facilitating land market and addressing land degradation. The agricultural sector is one of the key sectors of Armenia's economy. It is significant not only as an important contributor to the nation's economic vitality, but also as one that affects the country's security, productivity of land use, as well as the population's health, nutrition, and quality of life. Accurate, relevant and reliable soil information is essential to support evidence-based decision making in land use, especially in agriculture.

During the meetings with the Deputy Minister of Economy, representatives of the agrochemical service, soil research, academia, melioration and cadastral services, the full support of the government and national institutions for the implementation of the project was ensured.
