The Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils is working in the eleventh working session from the 20 to 22 November at FAO headquarters in Rome. After the report of the work performed since the 10th working session from both sides, ITPS Chair, Rosa Poch and GSP Secretary, Ronad Vargas, the ITPS started from the presentation of the publication RECSOIL and continued with the discussion on the Protocol for assessing Sustainable Soil Management.

The agenda of the meeting is dense and foresee different topics of discussion as it follows:

  • Revision and endorsement of the zero draft “Feasible and regionally contextualized guidelines for measuring, mapping, monitoring and reporting on SOC stocks and SOC changes”
  • Revision and endorsement of the draft Global Assessment of Soil Biodiversity
  • Finalization and endorsement of the definition of Black Soils as requested by the International Network of Black Soils (INBS)
  • Revision the draft documents on soil pollution and preparation of a short communication on soil pollution
  • Preparation for the Global Symposium on Soil Biodiversity (GSOBI20)
  • Revision and endorsement of the concept note for the Global Symposium on Soil Salinity
  • Revision and endorsement of Pillar 4 related products: GSOCseq global maps and technical reports; GSOCmap Technical Report for the v1.5; GSOCmap Interpretation Document 
  • Preparation of a scientific and science-policy interface papers by ITPS: SOC, Fertilizer Code and Soil Pollution
