Are you ready to celebrate World Soil Day ?

Global Soil Partnership Newsletter

With World Soil Day 2017 approaching fast, the GSP Secretariat and partners are geared up to help create change by providing the soil community with tools and activities for an unforgettable celebration that will create a global buzz.

01/12/2017

Here’s a smart guide to get you to the heart of World Soil Day 2017 celebrations for 5 December under the theme “Caring for the planet starts from the ground”.

On #WorldSoilDay, the world's attention will be focused on pressing issues affecting soils, including degradation and pollution. To this end, specific attention will be given to the role of soil organic carbon in mitigating the effects of climate change. Indeed, the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils (ITPS) will launch the Global Soil Organic Carbon Map (GSOCmap) - the first global soil organic carbon map ever produced through a participatory and country driven approach. The map will support countries to build their own national soil information systems and report on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on SDG 15.3.1.

Help us to make World Soil Day a real global success! Please tell your friends and colleagues and help disseminate the new World Soil Day webpage:

Soil experiments for CHILDREN

The Soil LAB Activity Book is an educational tool for teachers, children and anyone who wishes to learn more about this year’s theme.

This series presents six simple science experiments to do at home or at school with children.

They provide a fun way to introduce children of all ages to basic scientific soil concepts and reveal many of the reasons why caring for our soils means caring for our future

Main GSP Outcome

It represents a key GSP achievement.

Increased soil organic carbon mitigates climate change and helps feed the planet!
