The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA), with the technical support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and funding from the United States Government, announced the project: "Mapping for Resilient Agrifood Systems in Central America and Sub-Saharan Africa (SoilFER)".
Zambia has taken a significant step forward in soil management with the inauguration of the Zambia Soil Laboratory Network (ZASOLAN). This initiative, a collaboration between the Zambian government, FAO and its Global Soil Partnership, as well as the Soil mapping for resilient agri-food systems in Central America and sub-Saharan Africa (SoilFER), aims to provide an interactive platform for soil laboratories. Its purpose is to facilitate the sharing of best practices in capacity building and transfer of knowledge among participating laboratories, drawing from the experiences of the Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN).
The GSP joins the IUSS in the celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science
The International Day of Women and Girls in Science, observed annually on February 11th, celebrates the vital contributions of women and girls to the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This day recognizes the importance of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in scientific endeavors worldwide.
The funds will enable FAO to upscale national and regional capacity building in soil assessment and sustainable soil management worldwide
In November 2023, Antigua and Barbuda's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Barbuda Affairs (MoA) organized a groundbreaking one-week training session in Saint Johns (Antigua and Barbuda) for their agricultural extension and analytical services officers. The focus of the training was to improve the officers’ expertise in important soil concepts and practical field skills for sustainable soil management. This event marked the launch of the first pilot project of the Global Soil Doctors programme (GSDP) in the Caribbean region.
