A heartfelt thanks to all participants of the Soil Biodiversity contest.

In the framework of the Global Symposium on Soil Biodiversity (GSOBI21), FAO, and its Global Soil Partnership (GSP) launched a photo and video contest on soil biodiversity. 

Unfortunately, due to the world pandemic, GSOBI21 has been postponed to 19 - 22 April 2021. In light of the Symposium, the soil biodiversity photo and video contest helped push the soil biodiversity agenda further to the public.

After the launch of the initiative on soil spectroscopy by the Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN) of the Global Soil Partnership in April 2020, GLOSOLAN organized its first plenary meeting on soil spectroscopy from 23 to 25 September 2020. The meeting was attended by 350 participants from 63 countries, including leading institutions and organizations in the field of soil spectroscopy.

Lorsque nous vaquons à nos occupations quotidiennes, la plupart d’entre nous ignorent que, sous nos pieds, se trouvent des végétaux, des animaux et des microbes incroyablement divers, qui peuplent nos sols. Les sols sont bien plus que de la «terre»: ils sont un important réservoir de la biodiversité mondiale, sur lequel s’appuient l’agriculture et la sécurité alimentaire, qui régule les émissions de gaz à effet de serre et qui protège la santé des végétaux, des animaux et des humains. Sans eux, notre monde ne serait pas le même.

Nous avons trop longtemps considéré les sols comme quelque chose d’acquis. Gardons-les en vie et protégeons leur biodiversité!
