The Global Soil Partnership bids farewell with affection and great appreciation to two eminent soil scientists who greatly contributed to the work of the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils and the Global Soil Partnership and have left us this year: Prof. Jaume Porta Casanellas, Emeritus Professor of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry at the Higher Technical School of Agricultural Engineering at the University of Lleida, and Dr. Juan Antonio Comerma Gutiérrez, member of the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils during 2015-2017 and senior researcher at the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Agronómicas in Maracay (Venezuela) for more than 30 years.
Healthy soils play a pivotal role in climate change mitigation and adaptation. Focusing on increasing soil carbon and improving soil health on agricultural and degraded lands, the RECSOIL Initiative engages with farmers to address site-specific soil threats through sustainable soil management interventions.
On the 10th of December, 18:00–19:00 (UTC+4) the #COP28’s Food Systems Pavilion will host a session Promoting the declaration of 2028 as the “Year of Saline Agriculture”, showcasing the transformative power of saline agriculture towards developing more climate-resilient, sustainable farming systems and healthy ecosystems in salt-affected areas.
As agreed during the 7th GLOSOLAN meeting (21-23 November 2023), GLOSOLAN is pleased to announce the production of a 2024 calendar, specially designed for laboratories.
