The World Soil Day Photo book 2017 presents WSD photographic stories in a visual narrative. This publication recognizes and prizes the efforts of all WSD event organizers worldwide. On 5 December more people than ever celebrated soil, carbon, and the opportunities right under our feet under the slogan “Caring for the Planet starts from the Ground”.

The Global Soil Organic Carbon Map (GSOCmap), a country driven endeavour, allows the estimation of SOC stock from 0 to 30 cm. It represents a key contribution to SDG indicator 15.3.1.

The “Global assessment of the impact of plant protection products on soil functions and soil ecosystems” prepared by the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils (ITPS) evaluates the impact of Plant Protection products, a subset of the overall range of pesticides, against the definition of sustainable soil management, in particular against soil biodiversity, soil functions, water quality and soil erosion. It provides a high-level, global-scale scientific opinion on the effects of plants protection products on soil functions and biodiversity.

The Soil Painting competition is an awareness raising activity GSP proposed for World Soil Day 2017 which is open to children, teens and young university students all over the world, from age 5. The Soil Painting Tutorial is designed to guide participants that would like to enter the contest and produce a painting with soil-derived colors for the 5th of December, World Soil Day.
