The
GOFC-GOLD Project Office has recently re-organized the
panel documents. Primary documents are now included in
a Report Series, Which includes 20 reports
to date. Other Documents include publications
and articles related to GOFC-GOLD, which have been published

Land Cover Implementation Team
The
GOFC-GOLD Land Cover Implementation Team Project Office
has published three newsletters to date. The most recent
Newsletter Number 3 has information on the Harmonization
of Global Land Cover Products workshop held in Rome. The
newsletters can be found at the GOFC-GOLD

New
Project Office for Land Cover Implementation Team
The
new ESA GOFC-GOLD Land Cover Project Office (GOFC-GOLD
LC PO) was established in February 2004. The Project Office
is located at the Department of Geoinformatics, Institute
of Geography, Friedrich Schiller University at Jena, Germany.
It is funded by ESA for a duration of at least 3 years.
The main goals of this office are to strengthen the GOFC-GOLD
framework and to:

coordinate, promote and fulfil the GOFC Land Cover implementation
plan
-
support the European Space Agency and related projects
and services.

Land
Cover Team Meeting at Jena, Germany
The
second meeting of the GOFC-GOLD Land Cover Implementation
Team (LC-IT) was held on 2-4 March 2004 at the Friedrich
Schiller University Jena, Germany. The meeting was organized
as a "kick off" for the new ESA GOFC-GOLD Land
Cover Project Office and focused on several general objectives:
1. Inauguration of the new Project Office
2. Review and evaluation of previous accomplishments
and implementation objectives of the GOFC-GOLD LC-IT
3. Discussion of efforts in global land cover mapping
4. Development of action plans for GOFC-GOLD Land Cover
implementation.

New
GOFC-GOLD Executive Director
GTOS
is pleased to announce that GOFC-GOLD has a new Executive
Director, Dr. Michael Brady, a project leader at the Natural
Resources Canada, Canadian Forest Service, Northern Forestry
Centre, where the GOFC-GOLD secretariat is based. Dr.
Brady currently manages the remote sensing and landscape
programmes.
The
primary role of the GOFC-GOLD Executive Director is to
maintain external and internal communication, liaise with
collaborating partners, facilitate support for activities
of the three implementation teams, and arrange annual
meetings for the Scientific and Technical Board. Support
for this position is provided by the Canadian Space Agency
and the Canadian Forest Service.
