Land Cover Implementation Team meeting at Boston, U.S.A.
The Land Cover Implementation Team meeting was hosted by Boston University, 9-12 January 2012, at Boston, U.S.A. The meeting focused on global land cover validation activities, initiating the global moderate resolution processing working group, and developing guidance/recommendations on the specifications for the land cover Essential Climate Variables (ECV).

USGS and Boston University to host 3rd GOFC-GOLD Data Initiative Session with Advanced Training
The 3rd session of the GOFC-GOLD Data Initiative will be conducted from April 30th to May 25th 2012 in partnership with USGS, NASA, START, and Boston University. This session of the Data Initiative will further the goal of building capacity among researchers and resource managers in developing countries.
The 2012 training program will have two components:

- Two week training session at the USGS EROS Data Center at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, led by Dr. Thomas Loveland. Participants will focus on accessing and compiling regional and country-level data sets on land cover and fire observations.
- Advanced training session at Boston University, Boston, Masachusetts, led by Dr. Curtis Woodcock. Participants will take an intensive course on the applications of Satellite Remote Sensing data to monitoring forest and land cover change.
Land Cover Implementation Team Project Office re-opens at the University of Wageningen
In February 2012 the Land Cover Implementation Team (LC IT) Project Office re-opened at the University of Wageningen in partnership with the European Space Agency. The Project Office will continue to coordinate, promote and fulfil the GOFC-GOLD Land Cover implementation plan, support the European Space Agency, and support related projects and services.
Specific objectives of the LC IT project office are to:

- Manage and coordinate the execution of the GOFC-GOLD Land Cover implementation plan.
- Support ESA in the coordination of land cover harmonization and validation activities focussed on the development of a user information service for the reporting and exchange of validation results and information relating to the operational activities of satellite platforms and data delivery (GLOBCARBON and GLOBCOVER projects).
