Abstract: Vácrátót, Hungary, 30 October
to 4 November, 2000
During
the Central and East European (CEE) regional International
Long-Term Ecological Research (ILTER) and GTOS meetings held
in Budapest (Hungary, 1999) and Nitra (Slovakia, 2000) it
became clear that an informatics workshop would be of benefit
for the CEE region. A five-day workshop on terrestrial data
management and accessibility concepts in Central and Eastern
Europe was, therefore, organized in Vácrátót
(Hungary) from the 30 October to 4 November 2000. The workshop
was a combination of lectures, demonstrations, discussions
and hands-on computer laboratory experience focusing on the
key issues of data management and accessibility. Participants
also took part in discussions on the possible integration
of CEE LTER (Long-Term Ecological Research) sites into the
metadata networks of ILTER and GTOS' TEMS database. The following
report is a summary of the content and results of this regional
informatics workshop.
