GTOS/GCOS Eighth Session of the Terrestrial Observation Panel for Climate Summay Report

The Twelfth Session of the GCOS Steering Committee was held at the WMO headquarters in Geneva from 15-18 March 2004.

GCOS presented the Second Report on the Adequacy of the Global Observing Systems for Climate in Support of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to the Eighteenth Session of the UNFCCC’s Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advise (SBSTA-18) in June 2003 and to the Ninth Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNFCCC in Milan, 1-12 December 2003.

The TOPC 8th meeting was dedicated to the review of the Essential Climate Variables (ECVs) and the refinement of the terrestrial component of the implementation plan.
