Science and Remote Sensing Initiative (BSRSI)
BSRSI is a global change research program in the Department
of Geography at Michigan State University. It develops an
interdisciplinary approach to understanding global change,
at both regional and global scales, through the integration
of both physical and social sciences.
- Climate Change Portal
ClimateArk is a Climate Change Portal and Search Engine
dedicated to promoting public policy that addresses global
climate change through reductions in carbon dioxide and
other emissions, renewable energy, energy conservation and
on Earth Observations Satellites (CEOS)
site provides a collection of freely accessible documents
generated and maintained by the Committee on Earth Observations
of International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN)
- This non-profit, non-governmental organization specializes
in on-line data and information management, spatial data
integration and training, and interdisciplinary research
related to human interactions in the environment.
- A discussion community and learning network dedicated
to bringing about global environmental sustainability through
environmental advocacy. Established January 20, 2004.
- EARTHWATCH is
one of the world's largest private sponsors of scientific
field research projects. Its programmes are designed to
anticipate environmental degradation and to alert countries
to human activities that may be interfering with the biosphere,
thus their well-being.
- Eco-Portal - the Environmental Sustainability.Info Source.
A database for environmental sustainability information.
- EnviroLink is one of the largest online sources of environmental
information and provides links to up-to date environmental
Change Network (ECN)
- This site, founded in 1992, represents the UK's integrated
long-term environmental monitoring network. It is designed
to collect, store, analyse and interpret long-term data
based on a set of key physical, chemical and biological
variables which drive and respond to environmental change.
Change Data and Information System (GCDIS)
- GCDIS is a cooperative activity of agencies participating
in the U.S. Global Research Program (USGCRP). The site includes
multidisciplinary data from atmospheric science, ecology,
oceanography, as well as economics and sociology.
- Global Change
and Terrestrial Ecosystems (GCTE)
- GCTE aims to predict the effects and consequences of changes
in climate, atmospheric composition, and land use in terrestrial
ecosystems including agricultural and production forest
Geosphere Biosphere Programme (IGBP)
- The International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP)
is an interdisciplinary scientific activity established
and sponsored by the International Council for Science (ICSU).
It acquires basic scientific data on the interactive biological
and chemical processes that relate to global change.
- The INFEO system offers access to Earth observation information;
services, and data catalogues around the world.
Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation
- ITC is the largest institute for international higher
education in the Netherlands. It aims to assist industrializing
countries in the development of aerospace surveys, remote
sensing applications, and the establishment and management
of geo-information systems.
Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) Net
aims to promote sustainable development in decision making
internationally and within Canada. The site includes political
analysis, information on best practices and demonstrations
on how to measure progress.
Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) Linkages
site, designed by the IISD, serves as an electronic clearing-house
for information on past and upcoming international meetings
related to environment and development.
Ecological Research (LTER) Program
LTER Network is a collaborative effort among over 900 scientists
and students which extends the opportunities and capabilities
of the individual ecology sites to promote synthesis and
comparative research with other related domestic and international
resolution satellite imagery, meteorological data and products,
methods and techniques used for environmental monitoring,
crop forecasting, early warning, desert locust control and
more, from the ARTEMIS and Agrometeorology Groups, FAO Environment
and Natural Resources Service (SDRN).
Resource Defense Council (NRDC)
- NDRC's purpose
is to safeguard the Earth: its people, its plants and animals,
and the natural systems on which all life depends.
Regional and Global Data for Global Change Research from
metadata database of data and models on the biogeochemical
dynamics of terrestrial ecosystems. Metadata contain links
to data and models held by other data centers.
Dimensions is the information service of the FAO Sustainable
Development Department (SD).
- The Need
to Know - Ecology and Environment
site is updated on a weekly basis and provides information
and links on the WWW resources related to the Science of
Ecology and the State of the Environment.
Nations Department for Policy Coordination and Sustainable
main objective of DPCSD is to facilitate better integration
and coordination of the work of the United Nations in the
economic and social sphere by providing support to the central
policy-making bodies and coordination processes on the various
aspects of development.
aims to provide decision-makers and the public with improved
access to quality environmental information. It supports
UNEP in expanding the use of such information for awareness
raising, policy making and action.
mission of the UN system-wide Earthwatch is to harmonize
the activities and findings on environmental and related
socio-economic information across the United Nations.
Conservation Monitoring Centre (WCMC)
provides information services on the conservation and sustainable
use of the world's living resources, and helps others to
develop information systems of their own.
Resources Institute (WRI)
site represents an independent centre for policy research
and technical assistance on global environmental and development
