News for NERIN, a regional network of the GOFC-GOLD Panel of GTOS:

1. NERIN web page is now available in Russian at http://nerin.scert.ru/ and English at http://www.fao.org/gtos/gofc-gold/net-NERIN.html.

2. Metadata on valuable information resources on Northern Eurasia is available at: http://wwwdata.forestry.oregonstate.edu/MDEDIT/index.aspx

3. Northern Eurasia Land Dynamics Analysis (NELDA) project was recommended for funding by NASA LCLUC Program. NELDA is designed to develop tools, methods, data, and collaborations needed to better characterize land-cover dynamics across the Northern Eurasia region. http://nerin.scert.ru/docs/NELDA/NELDA_project_summary.pdf

While funding constraints limited the number of tests sites and the scope of work proposed so far, it would be important to increase the number of test sites in the future. Several additional teams active in the Northern Eurasia region expressed interest in NELDA activities and we invite new expressions of interest (interest should go to Olga Krankina, olga.krankina@oregonstate.edu).

4. The next NERIN workshop is scheduled for 8 July 2006 in Tomsk as part of ENVIROMIS conference http://www.scert.ru/ru/conference/enviromis2006/. The workshop plans to focus on landcover mapping in West Siberia and future development of NELDA project. The workshop will bring together representatives of research teams participating in NELDA, those interested in joining the network of test sites, and local science and application community with interest in remote sensing of land cover.
