Dear colleagues,
Approximately 1 year ago the New_LocClim, version 1 of the FAO Local
Climate Estimator software and global climate database was published.
The software provides estimates of average climatic conditions for
any location on land, including the 30000 stations of the FAO climatic
database. Using a variety of user-controlled interpolation techniques,
the programme can create climatic maps using FAO or user-provided
data, and provide derived location-specific climate information
such as Köppen classes, growing season characteristics, and
many others.
We would like to inform you that a version 1.10 of the LocClim (version
1.10) is now available and includes numerous improvements. Among
others, a large list of cities/towns has been added for users not
familiar with geographic coordinates.
The programme can be downloaded from the following site:
ftp://ext-ftp.fao.org/SD/SDR/Agromet/New_LocClim/
The Web_LocClim offers interoperability transactions: other servers
can directly query the LocClim service to get climate data that
they can process for their own purposes: www.fao.org/sd/locclim/srv/en/locclim.home
See additional information on FAO climate-products and tools: www.fao.org/sd/dim_en3/en3_051002_en.htm
For additional
information or specific queries, please email juergen.grieser@fao.org.
For a CD version of the programme, kindly contact agromet@fao.org.
