Technical
training
To fulfil its mission GTOS has supported, organized and participated
in a training workshop on Dynamic Knowledgeware (see http://www.skeinc.com/NewSolutions.htm)
and invited participants from Bostwana, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia
and Zimbabwe. The workshop was held in Zimbabwe and along with an
earlier workshop, which took place in Zambia, highlighted the need
for easy-to-use publishing and access software. Interested parties
have shown a high level of interest in the implementation of Dynamic
Knowledgeware in Southern Africa. The training improved the participant's
level of understanding on the key component of data management.
Participants also learnt how to use and manage maps and tabular
data with Dynamic Knowledgeware.
Data
policy
The benefits of a technical training, fundamental for the implementation
and management of information systems can only be realised if there
is a favourable policy environment. GTOS is therefore organizing
a senior-level workshop focusing on data policy. Under the umbrella
of food security and natural resources the following issues will
be covered: standards, metadata, registration process, release and
sharing, privacy, liability, copyrights, maintenance cost, etc.
The workshop will help to demonstrate the importance of information
publishing and access and will demonstrate how the Dynamic Knowledgeware
tools can be used to achieve such a system.
