GLOBCARBON will develop a service to generate fully calibrated estimates of land products which are nearly independent of the original Earth Observation data source. The service will focus on development of a system to generate global estimates of the following:

1. fire - location, timing, area affected

2. reflectance

3. fAPAR and LAI

4. vegetation growth cycle - timing, duration, spatial and temporal variability

The project will focus on seven complete years, from 1997 to 2003 which is when overlap exists between the various satellite measurements. The objective is to develop a flexible service that is not dependent on any single satellite system and can therefore be retrospectively applied to existing archives and used with future satellite systems.
