FAO, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Food Programme (WFP) in coordination with the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) are working together to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS on agriculture, food security and rural poverty.

FAO is developing an HIV/AIDS framework for the agriculture sector in partnership with other UN agencies, member states' ministries of agriculture, academics and civil society partners such as NGOs, women’s groups and those representing people living with HIV/AIDS.

FAO is also a partner in the Regional Network on HIV/AIDS, Rural Livelihoods and Food Security (RENEWAL), led by two CGIAR centers (ISNAR and IFPRI)
