A senior Mexican agricultural official commented that a Mexican trade delegation traveling to China this week hopes to conclude talks that will allow more banana, pork and sorghum exports to the Asian giant.

The talks, focusing on sanitary protocols, come at a time when the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with Canada and the United States has been stalled, which could have important consequences for future agricultural trade between the neighboring countries.

Raul Urteaga, head of international trade at the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture, traveled to Beijing on Wednesday to conclude negotiations.
