CCLME migratory coastal species project

Transboundary co-management of migratory coastal species of importance to artisanal fisheries (mullets, bluefish and meagre)

This CCLME demonstration project will be implemented as part of Component 2: Marine living resources

Participating countries: Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal and the Gambia

The effective management of shared fish stocks is one of the great challenges towards acheiving long-term sustainable management of fisheries. The project will promote multi-country cooperation and co-management of shared stocks of four associated migratory coastal benthopelagics (pelagic species of imporatance to artisanal fisheries). It will demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of cooperative comanagement of shared fish stocks through the establishment and evaluation of the sub-regional cooperation mechanism.
