Launching ceremony of the CountrySTAT system in Burundi

28/06/2013

The Ministry of Agriculture and the Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies of Burundi jointly launched the CountrySTAT system of Burundi on 28 June 2013.

CountrySTAT Burundi was developed by FAO in close collaboration with the East African Community (EAC), with the aim to create a common platform for accessing and disseminating reliable and timely data on food and agriculture in the country.

The activities of the CountrySTAT system in Burundi are coordinated by the members of the National Secretariat, who have already made significant efforts to gather relevant data at national and sub-national levels and made it easily accessible on-line through the CountrySTAT platform.

Acting as a one-stop centre, it provides a unique tool for accessing existing food and agriculture data in the country while improving data quality in line with the international standards. This is crucial for evidence-based policy making with the ultimate aim to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.

With Burundi’s adhesion, the EAC now have all 5 member countries using a common statistical framework and tools for the dissemination of statistics related to food and agriculture. This will allow the EAC to disseminate data aggregated at the regional level on EACSTAT.
