A workshop organized by the EAF-Nansen Programme on the analysis of Ichtyoplankton, was held from 17 to 28 September at Sam Nujoma Marine and Coastal Resources Research Centre (SANUMARC) in Henties Bay, Namibia. The workshop, attended by 10 scientist from Angola, Namibia and South Africa, was organized as part of the Theme 1 of the EAF-Nansen Programme Science Plan “Early Life History, recruitment and mortality” and also linked to the capacity development component of the Programme. A post-survey meeting to discuss aspects related to the survey on the Mascarene Bank was held from 3 to 6 September 2018 at the Department for Continental Shelf of the Maritime Zones Administration and Exploration of Port Luis, Mauritius. The survey on the Mascarene Bank took place from 4 May to 3 June and the final survey plan was agreed during a pre-survey meeting held in Victoria, the Seychelles, on 2 May 2018. As part of the Science Plan developed within the framework of the EAF-Nansen Programme, a specific theme is dedicated to “Ecosystem characterization”, recognized as a crucial step for ecosystem assessments and monitoring. The R/V Dr Fridtjof Nansen arrived in Colombo as part of the survey in the Indian Ocean. On this occasion a port call event was organized onboard the vessel on 22 June 2018. The event was a good opportunity to present the upcoming survey in the Bay of Bengal showing main scientific objectives and additional information of research that will be carried out in the upcoming survey.

From 26 June to 01 July the FAO working group in the assessment of Small Pelagic fish off Northwest Africa was held at Banjul, the Gambia.
