The Norwegian Institute of Marine Research, has released a new webpage dedicated to the building of the new research vessel Dr. Fridtjof Nansen. Photos from the building process and a monthly newsletter to keep track of the construction of the vessel are available on the page.

The UN General Assembly has listed seamounts among marine habitat that may have particularly vulnerable benthic communities and fisheries resources. The recent cruise of the R/V "Dr. Fridtjof Nansen", from the 15 Jan to the 12 Feb 2015 aimed at mapping the occurrence and abundance of benthopelagic fish and sessile epibenthos in the southeast Atlantic.

A workshop on the EAF Implementation in the SWIOFC area organised by the EAF-Nansen project has just been held at the White Sands Hotel in Dar es Salaam. The workshop was meant to examine where countries in the SWIOFC area stand in the adoption and implementation of the ecosystem approach to fisheries is a follow up of the previous workshop held in Pretoria, South Africa from 20 to 24 February 2011. On 19 February 2015, on the occasion of the Workshop on Linking Global and Regional Levels in the Management of Marine Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction”, a side event was jointly organized by the EAF-Nansen Project and the FAO Deep-sea Programme. The event was to present aspects of the survey carried out on the seamounts in the South East Atlantic Fisheries Organization (SEAFO) area by the R/V Dr. Fridtjof Nansen and share insights on capacity development for the sustainable management of fisheries and biodiversity conservation in ABNJ.
