AI Situation Update: East and Southeast Asia (July to October 2015)

Summary
Since the 1st of July 2015, there have been 133 confirmed avian influenza outbreaks in East and Southeast Asia. Between the 1st of July and 21st of October, the following subtypes of avian influenza outbreaks were observed in Asia:
 H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI)
 H5N2 HPAI
 H5N6 HPAI
 H5N8 HPAI
 H7N9 low pathogenicity avian influenza (LPAI)
Countries were affected as follows:

China
Mainland China reported 10 avian influenza outbreaks during the time period, as follows:
 H7N9 LPAI: six (6) reported human cases
 H5N6 HPAI: one (1) human case and domestic birds; 1,350 deaths and 820 culled.
 H5N2 HPAI: one (1) outbreak in domestic geese; 3,106 deaths and over 50,000 geese culled.
 H5N1 HPAI: one (1) outbreak in wild Great Black-headed Gull; over 2,361 bird deaths.
In addition, Taiwan Province reported 23 avian influenza outbreaks during the time period, as follows:
 H5N2 HPAI: twenty-one (21) outbreaks in chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys and other birds. There were approximately 63,000 H5N2 HPAI deaths and 233,216 birds were culled.
 H5N8 HPAI: two (2) outbreaks in ducks. There were 2,269 deaths and 16,384 ducks were culled.

Viet Nam
Viet Nam reported 20 avian influenza outbreaks in the time period, as follows:
 H5N1 HPAI: ten (10) outbreaks in chickens and domestic birds.
 H5N6 HPAI: ten (10) outbreaks in ducks and chickens.

Lao People's Democratic Republic
Lao PDR reported 1 avian influenza outbreak during the time period, as follows:
 H5N6 HPAI: one (1) outbreak in domestic birds; 314 deaths and 220 culled.

Republic of Korea
The Republic of Korea hadreported 61 avian influenza outbreaks during the time period, as follows:
 H5N8 HPAI: sixty-one (61) outbreaks in domestic birds; over 3,050,000 birds were reported as at risk.

Indonesia
Indonesia reported one outbreak of H5N1 HPAI in domestic chickens; 4,000 at risk and 175 deaths.
