Food Security Capacity Building

Regional training workshops and training of trainers at regional level

The objective of this activity is to cultivate a core team of trainers in each region (Sahel and Horn of Africa) who can lead seed security assessments in their countries.

There will be two major regional training events, one in the Sahel, one in the Horn of Africa. These workshops will be used to validate the training materials. The workshops have been conducted in Nairobi from 29 September to 2 October 2014 for the Horn of Africa region; and in Niamey from 15 to 18 October 2014 for the Sahel region. They have seen the participation of three to four persons per each of the eight countries of the two regions. The participants were identified among those professionals actually conducting seed security assessments, since it is essential that trainers exercise and put into practice what they have learnt during the training workshop.

These workshops have contributed to build a cadre of assessment team leaders who are able to lead seed security assessments in their countries and beyond. The trainees are in contact though the Community of Practice which has been established and serves as a tool for greater interaction and knowledge sharing among seed practitioners.
