Chile regulations

General requirements for import

Food safety regulation No 977/1996: Provides organizations with responsibilities to ensure food safety and good conditions related to the trade of imported food. It also provides guidance on the inspection of imported fresh and frozen fishery products and about sampling to be carried out at the border.

Resolution No 3154/2017: Provides general requirements about importing live animals, including fish and fisheries products in Chile.

Additives, contaminants, antimicrobials and residues

Food safety regulation No 977/1996: Provides guidance about additives, contaminants and residues of veterinary drugs in foodstuffs, which are permitted to be added to food sold in Chile, including standards and maximum levels allowed.

Microbiological and organic criteria

Food safety regulation No 977/1996: Provides guidance on the microbiological maximum limits in foodstuffs of aquatic animal origin.

Labelling and packaging

Food safety regulation No 977/1996: Provides guidance about the necessary requirements and standards for labelling and packaging.

Traceability

Food safety regulation No 977/1996: Provides guidance on the recall procedures of imported products that are subject to mandatory inspection at borders.

General Fisheries and Aquaculture Law: Aims to combat Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, thereby promoting the sustainability of global fisheries.
