Fisheries production is an important contributor to a number of national economies across the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) region. Fishing and fisheries also have deep cultural significance, especially for the Asian members of APEC. It is not merely a source of income or food supply, but traditional fishery products such as fish sauce and fish-based condiments have always been important ingredients in people’s daily diets, which are not easily substituted.
