The seafood market in Europe is characterized by slow activity and low demand at present. Weak demand for fishery products in China is overshadowing the European market, and prices are generally trending downward. There are some exceptions to this trend, however, and prices for tuna and squid have been rising.
The unusually high temperatures reached in Europe at the end of June have negatively impacted fish consumption and demand. Overall, prices trended downward, even throughout the holiday period when consumption of seafood is typically high. Tuna prices have dropped to their lowest level in four years, and canned tuna demand is reportedly very weak in the major markets, particularly in Europe.
