22/06/2017

The International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF) and Sapienza University of Rome hosted a knowledge-sharing event, From payments to co-investments in ecosystem services on 22 June 2017 in Rome, Italy. The event presented achievements, lessons learned, innovations as well as policy interventions captured and tested that could be scaled up/ integrated into future programmes.

FAO's Incentives for Ecosystem Services (IES) project presented experiences and lessons learned from integrating PES within a broader spectrum of incentives, combining public and private investments to assist farmers in overcoming adoption barriers to more sustainable practices, and to achieve environmental goals by improving productivity.

Other presenters included Bioversity International, World Bank, IFAD, Molise University and Sapienza University. The event aimed to raise awareness on the evolution of PES, and create a roundtable on ways to effectively operationalize payments and co-investments for ecosystem services through projects.
