INPhO, the Information Network on Post-harvest Operations, was originally designed by FAO with the support and collaboration of GIZ and CIRAD in 1996. The site is currently undergoing a review and reformat to enhance the presentation and accessibility of the information available. This information resource is managed by the FAO Nutrition and Food Systems Division.

The principal objectives of INPhO are to promote good practice in post-harvest activities for agricultural products and to assist in the expansion of agribusiness by providing easy access to technical data and information. 

Crop Compendium

Soybean is a useful oil and protein source and can be used to improve the nutritional value of traditional foods. The beans are processed to give soy flour, meal or milk products and the oil can be extracted leaving a meal which is used for animal feed.  The soybean is toxic to humans and mono gastric animals and requires heat treatment to destroy the trypsin enzyme inhibitors. The information provided in this section is intended to be used as an efficient tool to assist in skill enhancement and development in post-harvest activities and small agro-industries development.


The provision of effective training is a key aspect in promoting best practice in post-harvest operations to minimise losses and reduce waste  in the development of agroindustries and/or agro-businesses.
