In order to enhance the knowledge base on and support the uptake of good practices in climate change adaptation in the agricultural sectors, FAO will be organizing a series of webinar modules titled “Scaling-up of Adaptation in the Agricultural Sectors”. Each module targets a priority focus area for climate change adaptation in the agricultural sectors and is organized around a series of webinars.

Module 1: Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) in the agricultural sectors

Ecosystems play a critical role in maintaining human well-being. The long-term sustainability of food production is intrinsically linked to the sustainable management of ecosystem services and biodiversity. Ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) aims to protect and enhance the natural and managed ecosystem services that support livelihoods. This also strengthens the buffering capacities of local ecosystems and expands options for building resilience to climate change.

The first module of the SAAS series will present widely recognized and well developed approaches of ecosystem-based management of agricultural resources and their relevance in the context of climate change adaptation. The module consists of a series of webinars that will cover some cross-cutting aspects such as information needs, capacity development, policy responses, gender, sustainability and scaling up of good practices in similar ecosystems.

The objectives of the EbA module is:

  • To contribute to the knowledge on ecosystem-based adaptation in the agricultural sectors,
  • To introduce ongoing work and how it can better serve adaptation planning and implementation in  the agricultural  sectors.

This module supports adaptation practitioners with targeted knowledge and information to support in planning for and implemention of ecosystem-based approaches to support climate change adaptation in the agricultural sectors.
