Food Price Monitoring and Analysis Bulletin No. 2 | March 2018

Monthly Report on Food Price Trends
09/03/2018

The latest issue of the FPMA (Food Price Monitoring and Analysis) Bulletin FAO/GIEWS monthly report has been released. It reports food price trends at world, regional and country level and includes warnings on countries where prices of one or more basic food commodities are at abnormal high levels which could negatively impact access to food.

Main highlights of this issue are the second consecutive month of significant increases in international prices of wheat and maize; while at the country level, a successive sharp rise in staple food prices in the Sudan following the removal of the wheat subsidies coupled with the strong depreciation of the Sudanese Pound, and in Madagascar the record highs of rice prices due to the significant drop in the 2017 output, compounded further by a weaker currency.
