Senegal: MAFAP and the Joint Research Center of the European Commission (JRC) hold a validation workshop of the study on the optimal allocation of agricultural budget for the 2019-2023 phase of “Plan Senegal Emergent”
The scenarios were jointly determined with the Steering Committee and they reflect different spending options, such as investments in irrigation infrastructures, rural health education and health, or agricultural research and extension. The medium- and long-term impact of each budget allocation option are assessed against selected performance targets, such as production levels, trade balance, and nutritional intakes per capita. This assessment also takes into account the contribution of each scenario to the strategic goals of PSE and the structural transformation of the Senegalese economy.
The study results are intended to inform the ongoing budgeting process of the agricultural component of PSE for the 2019-2023 period. Under the leadership of DGPPE, this process will be finalized by the end of 2018 and consists in optimizing the contribution of agricultural and rural expenditures to the objectives laid out in the growth strategy of Senegal.
