Mesoamerica Hunger Free AMEXCID-FAO

Focus on demand, planning and governance

With a marked vocation to add and join, the Programme's work stands out for its inclusive and participatory approach, characterized by identifying and addressing the challenges faced by the rural population of Mesoamerica from their origin, according to their priorities, needs and specific capacities, and in full alignment with the institutional agendas in each territory.

In addition, "Mesoamerica Hunger Free AMEXCID-FAO" implements actions at the Mesoamerican level that facilitate the exchange of experiences, the generation of knowledge, capacity building and dialogue at all levels, seeking to foster political and social commitment to the importance of adequately addressing food insecurity and rural poverty, because the solution to the problem of hunger requires, above all, political will.

From the field to public policy

"Mesoamerica Hunger Free AMEXCID-FAO" programme proposes good practices and innovative development solutions, born from the implementation of pilot experiences, in close collaboration with public institutions and family farmers in the most vulnerable territories of the region.

The analysis, validation and systematization of these experiences allows the design of methodological tools of various kinds, aimed at facilitating the development of similar interventions in other territories and contexts.

This explicit knowledge, based on concrete experiences and specifically validated against the challenges of the Mesoamerican rural milieu, is then made available to decision-makers and legislators, with the objective of serving as a quality technical input for the promotion, design, implementation or evaluation of more efficient, effective and sustainable enabling frameworks that benefit rural population as a whole.

As a result of a shared effort based on the generation of synergies, the exchange of knowledge and experiences, and inclusive and intersectoral coordination, the products obtained within the framework of the Programme are public goods, which are available to all public agencies, academic institutions and civil society entities committed to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Innovative solutions of rural development

“Mesoamerica Hunger Free AMEXCID-FAO” targets its efforts towards the most vulnerable communities, especially those living in rural areas and suffering the highest levels of poverty and malnutrition, and those to which territorial gaps have compelled to migrate. In those territories, “Mesoamerica Hunger Free AMEXCID-FAO” implements pilot experiences in the field to then design methodological tools that contribute to creating more favorable environments and opportunities. In this context, among the best practices the Programme promotes, the following stand out:
