Modelling System for Agricultural Impacts of Climate Change (MOSAICC)

Training

A training session in Peru.

MOSAICC is designed to be used by experts in national institutions (meteorological services, agriculture departments, universities etc) having the capacity to host the server, to maintain the system and to coordinate country-wide climate change impact studies in agriculture. The different models should be run by researchers with the relevant expertise, possibly from institutions other than the host institution.

An interdisciplinary technical working group is established in a country with participation from relevant technical institutions as well as stakeholders such as Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environment, and Climate Change Office. Policy makers guide the design of the climate change impact study using MOSAICC.

When the system is set up in a host institution, experts are trained to use the models. The following trainings are provided:

  • Statistical downscaling for climate data
  • Hydrological modelling with STREAM
  • Crop modelling with AgroMetShell WABAL and AQUACROP and derivation of yield projections
  • Forest LANDIS-II model
  • Dynamic Computable General Equilibrium model
  • Server and system maintenance
  • Other associated tools such as spatial interpolation

In addition to the training sessions, FAO and partners provide support to carry out climate change impact studies.
