COFO side event: Adaptation for forests - forests for adaptation: Supporting implementation of NAPs and NDCs

16 July 2018, 13:15-14:45, Iraq room, FAO HQ, Rome

The side event will present countries' experiences in planning and implementing climate change adaptation in the forest sector, within the context of their broader responses to climate change. There will be presentations on the challenges and opportunities during the preparation of NAPs and efforts and issues to be addressed in implementing them in the forestry sector. The importance of vulnerability assessments of forests and forest dependent people (particularly in SIDS and LDCs) in national adaptation planning will also be discussed.  This will be followed by an exchange of country experiences in integrating forests into national frameworks and plans for climate change adaptation, in particular NDCs and related adaptation plans. This event is a joint collaboration between the FAO Forestry Department, the FAO Climate, Biodiversity, Land and Water Department and the CGIAR Research Program on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry.
