National climate action focus in Philippines: build capacity and mobilize resources - Mr. de Guzman

Mr. Emmanuel M. de Guzman, who works as Secretary and Vice Chairperson of the Climate Change Commission in the Philippines, highlights the importance of building capacity and leveraging climate finance to increase the resilience and adaptive capacity of country’s vulnerable agriculture sectors and rural populations.

Mr. de Guzman shares in this video his views about the importance of integrating the agriculture sectors in the country’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP), and protect farmers, foresters and fisher folk from climate impacts: “Climate change action planning allows to mainstream resilience and adaptation building strategies.”

Mr. Acharya underlines the need to build capacity to increase resilience and preparedness. Additionally, attention should be paid to develop technical and analytical tools for risk assessment and cost-benefit analysis, in order to identify appropriate strategies and increase investment. 

The FAO-UNDP “Integrating Agriculture in National Adaptation Plans (NAP-Ag)” Programme is working with the Philippines, and other countries, to safeguard livelihoods and promote resilience.
