Evidence-base needed for national climate change planning – Carol Mwape, Zambia

Year published: 2016

Ms. Mwape, who works as an Environmental and Social Inclusion Manager in the Interim Climate Change Secretariat in Zambia, shares in this video her views about the importance of integrating the agriculture sectors in the country’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP).

“We cannot convince the farmers, that they need to change their farming practices, if we cannot show evidence that the alternative can work.”

She highlights the need to build early warning systems and to develop capacity of the agents providing rural advisory services. Another priority area of action for Zambia, is that the sectors, such as agriculture sectors, affected by climate change will take climate change impacts into account in their planning and budgeting.

The FAO-UNDP “Integrating Agriculture in National Adaptation Plans (NAP-Ag)” Programme is working with Zambia, and other countries, to safeguard livelihoods and promote resilience.
