A top priority of the Tropical Agriculture Platform (TAP) is to advocate for more coherence in Capacity Development (CD) for Agricultural Innovation Systems (AIS) through the TAP Common Framework. 

·  Since 2015, when TAP action plan was developed, TAP participated in the following events to advocate and raise awareness on TAP Common Framework and importance of strengthening capacity to innovate: 

Additional outreach activities organized by the TAP Secretariat/FAO in collaboration with TAP Partners include training, seminars and webinars (for more information please see the News & Events section).

It is notable that the G20 has included TAP among the key components of its Implementation Plan to achieve food security and nutrition worldwide. The Implementation Plan for the G20 Food Security and Nutrition Framework (G20 FSN Framework) declares that one of its objectives is "Promoting smallholder productivity growth in LICDs through the Tropical Agriculture Platform".

FAO also signed Letters of Agreement with the Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI) and with the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) to collaborate through various activities on TAP/CDAIS with special attention to the Asian-Pacific and African region.

·  The policy dialogue events are organized at the global, regional and national level (in the 8 CDAIS countries). They include stakeholder consultations (including local government) at partnership level to identify key policy constraints that are inhibiting innovation in each particular innovation partnership, and national level events where priority issues are presented and discussed with policy makers.

- The national policy dialogues brings together organizations and stakeholders at all levels to support the development of a national vision on CD for AIS. National policy events have been completed in Laos (June 2018), Honduras and Guatemala (August 2018), Bangladesh (September 2018), Angola, Burkina Faso, Rwanda and Ethiopia (December 2018-February 2019).

- FAO in coordination with regional partners and FAO Offices organized a regional policy dialogue on Enabling Agricultural Innovation in Family Farming in Latin America and the Caribbean, in Panama, in October 2018. At the end of the event, participants agreed on the importance to promote awareness, capacity development and knowledge sharing in support of innovation for family farming in Latin America and the Caribbean, to support the process of innovation in family farming by applying inclusive, participatory approaches and to improve financial mechanisms and markets for innovation.

- With regard to the global level, TAP supported the International Symposium on Agricultural Innovation for Family Farmers: Unlocking the potential of agricultural innovation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, hosted by FAO on 21-23 November 2018. The event counted with 250 country delegates, representative from 300 non-state actors and an overall registration of 600 participants, including participants from the eight CDAIS countries and three new countries applying or interested to apply the TAP Common Framework for developing national innovation capacities. The symposium served as a global knowledge and partnership platform to better understand the potential of innovation in agriculture to address the SDGs, with a special focus on supporting smallholder and family farmers.
