Matching supply and demand for capacity development in Honduras

At a marketplace in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, in March 2017 major players in agricultural innovation presented their needs for capacity development to an audience of development organizations, private sector, funding agencies and national service providers.

Leading up to the event the innovators, involved in agricultural sectors such beans, cocoa, coffee and potato, completed a participatory process aimed at identifying the capacity gaps they face in order to make their value chains more productive and sustainable. The process culminated in a validation workshop that assessed their needs for capacity development.

The marketplace was meant to match capacity development demand and supply and the innovators made it clear that improving entrepreneurial and marketing skills are a priority, while they would want to be better able to make their voices heard in decision-making processes related to their sectors. During the event new partnerships were brokered to bridge the capacity gap and concrete proposals were discussed, such as trainings on how to market produce better.

The marketplace and preceding capacity development assessment in Honduras part of the Capacity Development for Agricultural Innovation Systems (CDAIS) project, a global initiative in support of TAP. This project is being jointly implemented by FAO and Agrinatura, and coordinated at country level by the Secretary of Agriculture and Livestock of Honduras (SAG).
