National Consultation Workshop for the GEF 6 - Green Agriculture

The project proposal for the GEF 6 - Green Agriculture project was presented at the National Consultation Workshop held on 24th Oct 2017 at the Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi. It was attended by representatives from the nodal agencies of the five participating states, i.e Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, and National and International agencies of relevant importance like WFP, NABARD, NBPGR, Bioversity International, WWF India and National Rainfed Area Authority.  The meeting was hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare in collaboration with FAO.

The FAO team presented the threat and issues, and the proposed interventions at the identified landscapes sites. The implementation and funding mechanism were laid out and discussed during the meeting. The responsibilities of the State nodal agencies to ensure the timely submission of the proposal to the GEF Secretariat were also discussed. The FAO team received positive reviews on the project design and the identification of the landscapes. The participants also gave their feedback on the complementary nature of the project intervention with existing government programmes. The project’s objective to mainstream concerns on global environmental benefits on biodiversity conservation, sustainable land management, sustainable forest management and climate change mitigation were lauded and reiterated by the participants. 

The Project proposal will be presented to the National Project Steering Committee for its approval on 9th November 2017.
