FAO collaborates in high level national advocacy meeting on antimicrobial resistance at New Delhi, India

On 16 January 2020, FAO joined hands with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), Department of Biotechnology (DBT),  the USAID, WHO, and UNEP in organizing a multi-stakeholder advocacy meeting to mitigate impact of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and accelerate implementation of  India’s National Action Plan on AMR. “One World, One Health, One Fight” was the theme of this AMR Summit.

The meeting took place in New Delhi and was attended by more than 150 experts from different sectors, institutions and specialties. The participants took stock of the activities being undertaken in India since official endorsement of its National Action Plan in 2017. They also deliberated upon future activities to combat AMR.

The meeting gave a call to accelerate implementation of India’s national action plan and accordingly all participants signed a pledge to actively contribute to this global cause.

Mr Tomio Shichiri, FAO Representative in India addressed the gathering and reiterated continuation of technical support of FAO to national efforts. During the deliberations too, support provided by FAO till date was frequently appreciated and recognized by the experts and officials.
