World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) 2020

On the occasion of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW), November 18-24, 2020, an opinion piece authored by Mr Tomio Shichiri FAO Representative in India and Dr. Rajesh Bhatia, Technical Advisor for Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), FAO India was published in the national daily, The Hindu, on November 24, 2020. Dr. Bhatia, was also interviewed by UN News Hindi on Antimicrobial Resistance.

Multiple awareness events were organized by members of the Indian Network for Fisheries and Animal Antimicrobial Resistance (INFAAR).

Several ICAR institutions also organized awareness programmes during this week. These included: Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI); the National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR); Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar, Odisha; Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI), Barrackpore; Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Eastern Regional Station (ERS), Kolkata; National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics (NIVEDI), Bengaluru and the Central Institute for Fisheries Technology (CIFT), Kochi.

Additionally, awareness activities were also organized at the Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, Sardarkrushinagar, Gujarat.
