FAO has issued a set of calls for expression of interest for internship positions, specifically encouraging applicants from the Global South and Indigenous Peoples.

Specific job descriptions for indigenous youth to be filled as soon as possible

Further to these calls for applications for internship positions at HQ, regional and country level, FAO’s technical units and country offices have prepared job descriptions for the indigenous internship programme related to a number of areas of work, ranging from gender, to fisheries, to poverty reduction, among others.

So far, several offices have prepared specific job descriptions targeting indigenous youth.

How can I apply to one of the positions?

If you are interested in any of these positions, you can apply via the FAO iRecruitment website at http://www.fao.org/employment/irecruitment-access/ and complete the on-line application form. You will have to create a Personal Profile Form (PPF) and apply to the Call for Application for your Region of interest.

For example:

If you are interested in the job description provided by the FAO Representation in Bangladesh, you will have to:

·       To which job description you are interested in, including the title of the position and location (HQ, regional or country office).

·       Specify if you belong to an indigenous community and indicate the name of your indigenous people and the country.

 

What if there are no specific job descriptions for the country/ region where I live?

If you do not find any job description for the country or region you live in, you are still encouraged to apply to the generic Call for Expression of Interest for your region of interest by registering via the FAO iRecruitment website at http://www.fao.org/employment/irecruitment-access/ and complete the on-line application form.

You will have to:

  • Apply to the Call for Expression of Interests in the Regions you are interested in.
  • Fill in your personal profile form on FAO iRecruitment.
  • Prepare a Letter of Motivation explaining why you are interested in the FAO internship programme and additionally specifying:

·       Which area of work you are interested in and where you would like to serve.

·       Specify if you belong to an indigenous community and indicate the name of your indigenous people and the country.

A Roster of Indigenous Interns will be created and you may be called to serve in one of the country, regional or HQ locations.

 

What if there are no specific job descriptions for the area of work I am interested in?

You will have to:

  • Apply to the Call for Expression of Interests in the Regions you are interested in.

What are the requirements to enroll in the programme?

In addition to the requirements specified in each job description, candidates will have to fulfil the following requirements:

  • Education: be enrolled in an under-graduate, graduate degree programme in a bona fide (i.e. listed in the IAU/UNESCO data base) educational institution at the time of application, or recent graduates.
  • Area of interest: candidates must specialize in a field relevant to the mission and work of FAO.
  • Languages: working knowledge of at least one FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish). Knowledge of a second FAO official language will be considered an asset.
  • Nationality: be nationals of FAO Member Nations
  • Age: Candidates should be aged between 21 and 30.
  • Skills: candidates should be able to adapt to an international multicultural environment, have good communication skills and be knowledgeable in the use of basic computer programmes.
  • Family relations: candidates with family members (defined as brother, sister, mother or father) employed by FAO under any type of contractual arrangement are not be eligible for the Internship Programme.
  • Residence/ Visa status: candidates should have appropriate residence or immigration status in the country of assignment.

 

What is the duration of the programme?

The programme will last for a minimum of 3 months and may be extended to a maximum of 11 months, as per the availability and interest of both the intern and the recruiting office.

 

Is there a deadline to apply?

Yes.

For the job descriptions already available, the positions should be filled as soon as possible therefore qualified indigenous candidates are invited to apply by Friday 15 September 2017.

The overall deadline to apply to the Internship Call for Expression of Interest is Sunday 31 December 2017
