#IndigenousPeoplesChat with FAO for #IndigenousPeoplesDay

In anticipation of the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples 9 August, FAO Indigenous will host a Twitter chat on 6 August.

28/07/2020 -

There are 476 million indigenous people around the world, constituting 6.2 percent of the global population and, according to different sources, representing more than 19 percent of the extreme poor (ILO, 2020). Indigenous peoples are not a homogenous group. They live in over 90 countries, in rural and urban areas, in forests, savannahs, mountains, and along the coasts, in low, middle-income and high-income countries. Indigenous peoples are the living proof of humankind’s resilience: they have survived pandemics and invasions for centuries. FAO considers Indigenous peoples key allies in achieving food security for all.

In anticipation of the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples  9 August, and in accordance with this year’s theme, COVID-19 and indigenous peoples’ resilience, FAO Indigenous  will host a Twitter chat on 6 August, to gather diverse voices and to chat with indigenous peoples in order to inform and gain an oversight of the obstacles they face and the ingenious solutions they have created to cope with the ongoing pandemic.

Here are the details:

Time & date: Thursday, 6 August from 8 AM EDT/ 2 PM CEST

Format: 1-hour twitter chat with the following questions published from @FAOIndigenous with #IndigenousPeoplesChat followed by a 15 minute session where indigenous peoples ask FAO
