The Mayangna community faces significant problems with illegal timber extraction and agricultural expansion in its territories. The Forest and Farm Facility is working with the indigenous Mayangna forest-farm producer organization MAYARING to improve its organizational, business and natural resource management capacities. This video demonstrates the impact of Forest and Farm Facility activities, including support to empower Mayangna women. Through this support, FFF has helped Mayangna women to reduce poverty and improve food security in their indigenous community.

Indigenous peoples from different countries (Peru- Latin America, D.R. Congo- Africa and Thailand- Asia) share some of their main issues related to tenure of, respectively, land, forests, and fisheries. They explain, in simple words, the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of land, fisheries and forests in the context of national food security, linking them with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Topics such as the Free, Prior and Informed Consent and rights of women to land, are covered, and concepts such as governance of land and collective and customary rights are explained. The voluntary guidelines are presented as an internationally valid tool that contributes to the identification of concrete solutions.

The Global Indigenous Youth Caucus (GIYC) met with FAO from April 5 to 8 in Rome headquarters with sixteen participants across seven world regions to discuss partnerships between FAO with Indigenous peoples worldwide. This is the first time the GIYC members have had the opportunity to meet with FAO representatives. The three-day event also provided a space for the youth to prepare their recommendations to the upcoming United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in New York.

Actively involving indigenous peoples and local communities in wildlife conservation is key to maintaining biodiversity and ensuring sustainable rural livelihoods.
