INFOODS Electronic Discussion Groups

Two INFOODS mailing lists have been established:

  • The food-comp list is for general discussions of food composition. Anyone involved in this area of nutrition can subscribe to the list by sending an email to:-

  • A very small group of people participates in the discussion of the food component tagging system. This list will not be active temporarily from 20 January 1999, until further notice. Participation in this group is by invitation or by special request.

WWW servers for Food Composition Topics

  • The USDA Nutrient DataBase for Standard Reference and several other data sets are available at from their www site.
  • The Food and Nutrition Information Center (FNIC) of the National Agricultural Library of the USDA provides Food and Nutrition Resource Lists, publications, audiovisual materials, and computer software packages on its WWW server.
  • FAO food and nutrition publications are available on their WWW server.
  • ESCORENA: Trace elements, natural antioxidants and contaminants in foods and diets
  • Metasite: THE "VIRTUAL" - NUTRITION CENTER
  • An experimental WWW server linked to the Swiss Food Composition Database (under development) offers demonstration database queries as well as links to other servers and information sources.
  • The LanguaL international descriptive language for foods and the activities of the International LanguaL Steering Committee are discussed on the Langual Home Page.
  • The Mexican food database Home Page.
  • "Platos típicos de países de América Latina" elaborado por la Oficina Regional de la FAO para América Latina y el Caribe, con el apoyo de LATINFOODS, INFOODS, y el INTA de la Universidad de Chile, presenta las contribuciones de profesionales de Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, México, Paraguay, Perú, Uruguay y Venezuela, cuyo listado figura en el documento bajo reconocimientos.
