Dear readers,

We would like to share with all of you some activities which are being undertaken, in relation to the redesign and updating of the INPhO web site. As many of you remember, some of these activities had been already proposed during the INPhO Workshop in Morocco (Rabat, 14-18 May) . The main idea is to improve the functionality of INPhO web site by facilitating not only the access, but also the structure of the INPhO page. The INPhO team will provide users like you around the world, and working on the postharvest sector, with an appropriate and easy electronic database specialised on postharvest issues.

Therefore, we would like to share with you some news:

1. As it was recommended by the 12 African partner institutions, and as a follow-up of the INPhO Workshop held in Rabat, the following tasks are in process:

• new ergonomic navigation for the entire site
• standardised search interfaces for databases
• new module "commodity cards": all INPhO available database by commodities, and
• Test on French, English and Spanish versions should be ready by March of 2002.

These tasks are carried out, under a Special Service Agreement, from a database and web specialist from CIRAD. The specialist has started to work on 14 of August and is expected to complete the duties in February 2002. The picture below shows what the INPhO redesigned framework will look like:

2. Likewise, and as part of the INPhO updating process, the INPhO Gallery, with more than 1.000 pictures on postharvest technology, is being enhanced. Improvements include:

• Revamping of the INPhO gallery, in order to conform to the new FAO standards for input, update and search procedures, and to make a wide data available to the organization, in the official UN languages. This new interface will provide assigned ID numbers to images plus automatic generation of thumbnail image hyperlinked to full size image formats. Currently in alpha test mode, these procedures will be available concurrent to modification to the entire suite of INPhO user.
  
  
• This is also a good opportunity to invite the INPhO community of readers to share any picture which can be useful for enriching the INPhO photo gallery. Each photo will have the correspondent copyright.

3. Since many INPhO users very often ask questions about the symbolic meaning of the INPhO logo, we take the opportunity to provide you all with an adequate explanation about the logo, as shown in the following picture and text:
