Costa Rica celebrates International Mountain Day

The official celebration of International Mountain Day (IMD) 2016 in Costa Rica will take place on Thursday, 8 December. The event will be held in the Auditorium of the National Library, which is located in the center of San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. Nepal Mountaineering Association to host Mountain Festival 2016

The Nepal Mountaineering Association is organizing the third Mountain Festival on 10-11 December at the International Mountain Museum in Pokhara, Nepal. The objectives of this event are to enhance the livelihoods of mountain communities by promoting mountain products, protect vulnerable mountain environments and promote mountaineering, mountain culture and mountain sports. The event will host at least 35 vendors of mountain products. There will also be wall climbing, a Chhello competition (stone throwing), traditional archery and music.

ICIMOD to announce 'ICT for Mountain Development Award' on IMD

A Georgian art exhibit in celebration of IMD

Utah Valley University (UVU) and the Utah Art Museum hosted "Building Bridges: Exploring Georgian Art and Politics" on 15 September as their contribution to the 2016 theme of International Mountain Day, “Mountain Culture: celebrating diversity and strengthening identity”. The museum houses the largest public collection of twentieth-century Russian and Soviet art in the western United States. Mountain Festival in Canada

12 September 2016The Canadian Mountain Network will host the first Mountain Festival on 9-15 December 2016 at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada in celebration of International Mountain Day. The Canadian Mountain Network is a recently formed group composed of scientists, researchers, businesses and community and indigenous partners working together for the sustainability of mountain spaces and those communities who inhabit them.

The festival will take place on 4-11 December 2016 in Islamabad, the federal Capital of Pakistan, and will include 14 events in eight days.
