Turkey celebrates IMD 2018

In Istanbul, Turkey an IMD event was organized in collaboration with Montis Trips & Expeditions and Impact Hub Istanbul to raise awareness on environmental issues. The program started with a welcome message from FAO-SEC's Forestry Officer, Peter Pechacek.

Pakistan celebrates IMD in Swat

Club46Pakistan in collaboration with TCKP celebrated IMD at Gabin Jabba in Swat, Pakistan. The event focused on educating children on the importance of mountains and the rich biodiversity that resides in Swat. The honey in this region is known throughout Kyber Pakhtunkhwa. 

A special calendar marks International Mountain Day 2018

A calendar released by the Nilgriri Documentation Center (NDC) in Udhagamandalam marked International Mountain Day. The honorary director of the NDC hopes that the occasion will bring awareness to the protection of ecology and biodiversity of the Nilgiris as well as all the Western Ghats.

ICIMOD announces the winners of several awards on IMD

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) announces the winners of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for Mountain Development Award each year on the occasion of International Mountain Day to honour achievements in ICT-enabled innovations and practices that promote environmental sustainability and mountain development in the Hindu Kush Himalaya. Kathmandu Living Labs, Nepal and National Biodiversity Centre, Bhutan were awarded. The ICIMOD Mountain Film Award 2018 was also announced. "An Uncertain Winter,"directed by Munmun Dhalaria was awarded.

Ministerio del Poder Popular para el Ecosocialismo celebrates in Venezuela

Ministerio del Poder Popular para el Ecosocialismo has organized a four-day event to celebrate IMD in Los Andes, Venezuela. Activities include several workshops, mountain excursions and community reforestation activities. 

IMD celebration at COP24

There will be a IMD side event on "Mountain adaptation: Vulnerable peaks and people" at UNFCCC COP24 in Katowice, Poland. The event will be organized by UN Austria, the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention (PSAC), Consorcio para el Desarrollo Sostenible de la Ecorregión Andina (CONDESAN) and Albania. The high-level event will gather representatives of mountain regions from across the world and feature the launch of two reports including the global state of mountain [...]

L'Association Assirem Gouraya will celebrate IMD by replanting 300 trees

L'Association Assirem Gouraya will be celebrating the "la 7éme édition du festival national de la Montagne in la Wilaya de Bejaia, Algeria. The five day festival will include a reforestation activity of 300 trees, exhibitions of aritisinal products and an organized hike in Gouraya National Park. Approxinately 500 participants are expected to attend.        

IISUMOD celebrates IMD with first convention on sustainable mountain development

IISUMOD, in partnership with the Council for Agricultural Research and Economics (CREA), the World Agricultural Heritage Foundation (WAHF), and the Center for Internal Areas and Apennines (ArIA) of the University of Molise, is organizing the "1st IISUMOD Convention on Sustainable Mountain Development: Strengthening Partnerships, Policies and Practices in the Himalaya and Beyond". The convention will take place in Rome, Italy on 11 December 2018, during International Mountain Day – 2018 with the theme of Mountains Matter. 

#MountainsMatter for energy

As IMD approaches, the Swiss Federal Institute is running a research project dealing with mountains and energy. It aims to promote the sustainable use of wood as a measure to promote the energy transition in Ukraine. To give local people a voice, a Participatory Video exercise is being conducted in Boryslav, a town located at the foothills of the Ukrainian Carpathians.
