International Mountain Day

Restoring Mountain Ecosystems photo contest winner

First place: Marc Foggin from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland with his photo "Mountain farming in Gharmin village, in the heart of the Yagnob Valley", taken in Tajikistan.

About the photo: Yaghnob National Park was established in 2019 to conserve and restore landscapes with special ecological and cultural value, to preserve the unique Yaghnobi language and cultural heritage, to develop community-beneficial tourism, to conduct scientific research, and to achieve sustainable use of natural resources. The park is opening new possibilities for biological and cultural diversity conservation in the Yaghnob territory. The communities, national park authorities and their partners are in the process of developing a co-management plan for the new national park.

Plateau Perspectives and the public organization Anahita (both members of Mountain Partnership) are collaborating with the park and community for strengthening co-management, with support from the Mountains of Central Asia programme of the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund. Learn more.

Second place: Evgeni Dimitrov from Bulgaria with his photo "Guardian trees", taken in the Swiss eLTER site at Davos.

Third place: Nicolas Bianchi from France with his photo "Prairie alpine et lac de montagne".
